Twittering Machine

I was glad to find this image, after stumbling on this link compendium. I can’t stop thinking about the article I referenced a few days ago as I’ve been lurking on a variety of audio sites. As years go by, I move further from the twittering crowd and into a different sort of thought space. It’s not a matter of renouncing the social life as much as it is a deeper appreciation of life as it slips away underneath the clamor.

Taste plays an indisputable role in the way we make choices and it seems so mysterious and slippery. Popularity, ultimately, is perhaps the poorest gauge of relative importance. But without popularity, we have little to use as a signpost to budget our limited attention. And curiously, valuing things by their scarcity (or lack of conversation about them) runs counter to the popularity index. In the end, neither provides a more useful result.
